I always loved this painting for many reasons. But then I while back I found out that it was the HMS Temeraire that came to the aid of HMS Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. It came along side the French ship Redoutable which was heavily engaged with the Victory. Redoutable was forced to surrender.

Rather charming, this painting I feel.

The uniform I beleive to be from a personal elite regiment of Napoleon III that is all I know as Andre was a member. But of what in particular I do not know.
