Heinz Wilhelm Guderian. July - August 1941.
Taken by Ludwig Knobloch.
Guderian is a fascinating man. He fought in both World Wars for Germany. But what makes this man particularly interesting in military history was his tactical mind. It was Gudarian that perfected the new moblie combined arms tactics of war; including Blitzkrieg. During his time during the Great War and the inter-war years, Guderian studied greatly how mobile war using tanks combined with supporting weaponry could revolutionise war.
Several books were published by the general on the subject and Guderain would be given the task of making it a reality; which he did. Panzer forces would be orgainsed following Guderians advice.
Guderian personally led his men into combat during the early campaigns of the second world war categorized by this “Lightning War” Throughout the war Guderain would at times question higher command decisions, particulary during the Russian campaign and the latter stages of the war; even contesting them to Hitler himself. This saw the general several times removed from command, but singled him out as a great man of character and self belief.
