US WW2 fighter ace; Roy Whittaker.
Whittaker took part in numerous actions during the war; all in the North Africa/Middle East area of operations. He interestingly was selected to undertake training with the RAF and subsequently passed on his newly obtained knowledge to fellow US pilots.
In one spectacular action know as the ”Palm Sunday Massacre” Whittaker shot down three Junkers Ju 52’s and one Messerschmitt BF 109G. During this action it has been said that 100 Ju 52’s were present along with 50 plus supporting fighters. The action occured over Cape Bon; Tunisia.
At the end of the fray 59 Ju 52’s and 16 109’s had been destroyed.
